Horrified to read the comments below, couldn't disagree more, I've been going regularly for about three years and they simply have the best fish in the area by a long way and the chips are all fresh (not frozen and recooked like most chippies around here) and are fried in really great tasting batter - they have cuttings from competitions and newspaper articles on the wall showing the high quality of their food.

I like the fact that the staff are down to earth and you can have a giggle with them when they go in or a proper conversation - also I don't know what kind of fool thinks its a good thing to turn up to an empty chip shop and be served fish straight away, that means they've left your fish to overcook and go manky, wouldn't you rather it was cooked fresh for you?? Conversely if you turn up and wait for 5-10 mins because they are so busy with punters that love the fish and you have to wait for them to freshly fry you a piece of fish I'd also take that as a very healthy sign - and that's what they do here!

it sounds like people who want a slick 'organisation' with pressed uniforms and fancy signs to serve them fish on perry road in don't have much common sense and don't have much business in a local chippy !! What do you want most from a fish shop may I ask? Good corporate values and and a be-suited executive to say 'Have a lovely day sir/madam' or really great fish and chips?

By the way, Friday night is awesome with home made chicken tikka which is fantastic.

The only competition in this part of town is the Mapperley Frier on Mapperley top, they are good, they are more corporate (uniforms/staff/signs) but they do charge for it and the fish is also much smaller in my experience. They don't have parking (like Captain Cod do) and in the early evening, the idea of queueing to get into Mapperley with all the traffic really puts me off.   03-07-15
